Should I do a Cleanse?

Time to Rejuvenate

I'm hoping that today's note will give you something to look forward to-building up your strength and vitality!

Have you begun to notice the subtle signs in nature that seasonal change is upon us- the crisper, cooler mornings, the changing leaves, and the dropping acorns? This gets me excited because it means I get to share more with you about Ayurveda's powerful practices!

In Fall, we do a CLEANSE! But an Ayurvedic cleanse is probably not what you think.

Ayurvedic practitioners like to use the term "rejuvenation" over the word "cleanse" because our modern association with the word "cleanse" is often with weight loss and fasting. Modern cleanses can leave you feeling weakened rather than stronger. An Ayurvedic cleanse is gentle and meant to feel good.

The goal of an Ayurvedic cleanse or rejuvenation is to "reset" the body for the new season by strengthening the tissues that have become depleted from excess pitta dosha- the buildup of heat in the body over the summer months. If there is remaining heat in the tissues as the season changes, you are more likely to get sick as the body tries to rebalance itself. By doing an Ayurvedic cleanse you're supporting immunity through diet, and building overall resiliency in body, mind and spirit.

A FALL rejuvenation can be designed in many ways.

There is a specific protocol for the Fall rejuvenation, but there is also an important part that focuses attention on the most vulnerable area of your body/mind which becomes the key to emerging from your cleanse feeling strong, clear and fresh.

Here are a few ways to focus your cleanse

Diet

If your diet has been off and you're feeling heavy and digestion and elimination is off, you could benefit from focusing on diet as your main form of rejuvination.

Mind

If you are mentally stressed and/or feeling overworked a mental rejuvenation would be a proper focus for you.

Time for Me

If you feel like you haven't had a moment to yourself and have been sacrificing your own health for the sake of others, diligent self-care becomes the focus of your rejuvenation.

If you feel like all these areas need direct attention there is ONE place that needs more support-I can help you figure that out.

What Happens in a Fall Rejuvenation?

An Ayurvedic Rejuvenation will include diet and lifestyle protocols and consist of a pre-clease and post-cleanse period.

  • The pre-clease may consist simply of buying your ingedients for the suggested meals and setting up your space.

  • The active rejuvenation can be as little as 1 day or as long as 10 days.

  • The post cleanse is re-entry into your daily routines and diet.

When do I do a Fall Rejuvenation?

I suggest beginning on the Autumnal equinox on September 22nd as it aligns perfectly with the changing seasonal position of the earth and sun, but any time after September 22 and when the leaves begin to fall would be appropriate. The most important thing about timing is that you specifically set this time aside. Many clients like to take a day or two off work or schedule it around a long weekend.
